GENEALOGIE DES ROIS D'ECOSSE et D'ANGLETERRE

Maison STUART




La Maison STEWART (dont le nom signifie Sénéchal d'ECOSSE), qui devient STUART en 1542, a régné sur l'Ecosse de 1371 à 1714, puis sur l'Angleterre de 1603 à 1714. Son origine remonte au Chef Normand Alan FITZ FLAALD. William FITZALAN, son fils ainé, restera en Angleterre où il fondera les Maisons des Comtes of ARUNDEL et des Ducs of NORFOLK. Le fils cadet, Walter FITZALAN servira David Ier, roi d'ECOSSE, qui lui donnera le titre de Stewart ou Sénéchal d'ECOSSE, qui servira de patronyme à la famille.

C'est vers 1560 que Mary, reine d'ECOSSE, donnera le nom de STUART à sa Maison, nom qui fut pris par plusieurs membres de la famille.
